SPAIN – A young Filipino-Spanish woman is becoming a familiar face in Spain as she joined the cast of the musical TV series “Dreamland”.
Alexandra Masangkay Escalona plays as one of the selected students to enter Dreamland, a prestigious school where students develop their talents in singing, dancing and acting.
“It’s my first time to be part of a TV series. It’s the best thing that could happen right now. This is a new opportunity, a new challenge,” Escalona said in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBNnews.com.
The series, aired on Spain TV network Cuatro and produced by Mediaset España, may have similarities with the hit TV series “Glee” but the show features more original compositions than cover versions.
“To be part of Dreamland is something really exciting, is something that I’m doing what I love because I’m there for singing. And it’s a new experience because last time, I was in a singing contest and right now I’m on a TV series about music. It’s like something new that I know I can learn and I’m growing as an artist,” Escalona added.
She first caught the eye of the public as one of the most popular finalists in Spain’s version of American Idol—Operación Triunfo, which explains why most Spanish televiewers and netizens easily recognized her when the TV network started promoting the TV series.
After the musical reality show, Alexandra got a recording contract from Blusens Music and had her first single “Are you fast enough?” released last year.
Last month, Escalona was also selected to be part of the newest girl band in Spain—5 Dreams. The group, composed of five cast members of Dreamland, has released the single “Baby” under Sony Music Entertainment. Originally published on ABS-CBNnews.com
